50 dead when boat capsized off Italy
October 13 , 2013
About 50 people died when a boat carrying migrants capsized in Sicily today; the incident wasn't as bad as it could have been since 200 out of 250 people on their way to Italy have been rescued.
This is the second time in eight days that a migrant-boat capsized in the region and reports suggest that today's disaster occurred when migrants began to move around on the boat in an attempt to signal a military aircraft regarding some issue.
About 363 people died only last week in a similar accident; European Commission is expected to help with this "emergency situation" and in handling the crisis.
Thousands of migrants travel across the Mediterranean in overcrowded and inefficient boats every year.
