27 feared dead in landslides in Japan
August 20 , 2014
At least 27 people were feared dead after landslides, triggered by heavy rain on the hills, hit the areas surrounding the Japanese city of Hiroshima, early Wednesday, August 20, as per media reports.
Rescue workers in helicopters pulled out victims from debris after the landslides destroyed several suburban homes. There is further danger that more rain could cause landslides to reoccur, officials said.
Landslides are not uncommon in Japan. Last October, 35 people were killed in landslides on the island of Izu-Oshima.
