September 22 , 2013
Red cross officials have reported that at least 22 people have died in Nairobi as a result of an open fire at a shopping center. Grenades were thrown inside the upscale mall as well and dozens of more people are said to have been injured.
The militant group al-Shabab has threatened to attack the mall in the past in order to retaliate the decision of the government to send troops to fight al-Qaeda but no group as of yet has claimed responsibility.
One of the witnesses said "they just came in and threw a grenade." Another one mentioned that the gunmen let Muslims to safely exit the area before the attack. The shopping center is popular with rich locals and is located in a posh neighborhood.
