130 killed in ferry mishap in Congo
December 15 , 2014
More than 130 people were feared dead after a ferry capsized in a lake in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Laurent Sumba Kahozi, the local transport minister, said the search for survivors in Lake Tanganyika was continuing. Some passengers were rescued after being found in the water, holding on to objects, media reports said.
Such mishaps are common in the area because vessels are routinely overloaded and don’t have safety equipment such as life-jackets.
