Yahoo was threatened with $250,000 a day fine

  • Yahoo was threatened with a fine of $250,000 per day by the US government if the internet firm did not hand over user data to the NSA, court documents have revealed.

Yahoo said in a blogpost that the 1,500 pages of documents, which were earlier secret, gave details of the company’s clash with the National Security Agency over the issue. Eventually, Yahoo had to give in and cooperate with the surveillance program of the NSA.

Ron Bell, the general counsel of the company, said in the blogpost that the documents show how Yahoo had to “fight every step of the way” against the surveillance efforts.
