US researchers use wi-fi signals to beam power to camera
June 6 , 2015
US researchers have used wi-fi signals to beam power to a camera.
The battery-free surveillance camera had to be modified for it to extract power from the wi-fi signals, which was then stored and used to take photographs.
The experiment was part of attempts by the research team to explore ways to exploit wi-fi as a source of power. They hope the techniques can be used to power a range of devices in future.
The system was developed by researchers at Sensor Systems Lab, University of Washington, Seattle.
