San Francisco based rider-sharing company Uber is trying to patent a pricing technology, as per media reports. The move has been criticized with some calling this practice price-gouging. The company has named the technology surge-pricing. As per the technology, the company increases fare prices during times of high-demand. This technology is among the 13 patent applications that the company has filed with the US patent office. The technology drew criticism in Australia when the company began using surge-pricing when people were trying to leave the area during a hostage crisis.
