Sony PlayStation network shut down after cyber-attack

  • The network of Sony’s PlayStation had to be shut down after it suffered a cyber-attack, according to media reports.

Sony said no personal data had been taken by the hackers.

The Sony Entertainment Network and PlayStation Network were hit by “an attempt to overwhelm our network with artificially high traffic,” the company said in a blog post, adding that it was working to fix the problem and resume services at the earliest.

Meanwhile, the FBI is probing what appears to be a bomb hoax that led to the diverting of a flight carrying John Smedley, president, Sony Online Entertainment.
