Slower tablet growth predicted for this year
May 31 , 2014
It appears that consumers are willing to hang on to their current tablets, which is slowing down the market. The original forecast for global tablet shipments for this year was 260.9 million but has now dipped to 245.4 million.
"The rise of phablets are causing many people to second-guess tablet purchases as the larger screens on these phones are often adequate for tasks once reserved for tablets," research firm IDC analyst Tom Mainelli said. Moreover, people don't buy new tablets soon enough and hold on to their old ones for a lot longer than it was expected.
Despite the slow growth, IDC mentioned that the market is expected to rebound since devices with larger screens are becoming the focus.
