Renowned hacker Barnaby Jack dies
July 27 , 2013
One of the biggest names in the hacking community died in San francisco, one week before he was supposed to show off techniques that would make it possible to attack implanted heart devices and kill a man from 30 feet away.
Jack was known as a "white hat hacker" because he exposed security flaws in banking and medical services that required fixing. He became one of the most famous hackers in the world after he made ATMs to spit out cash, calling it "Jackpotting". Although this incident brought him fame, his work on medical devices has had a broader impact.
The news of his death spread quickly via Twitter on Friday and the hacking community expressed its shock as a result. Jack's most recent employer tweeted saying "Lost but never forgotten our beloved pirate, Barnaby Jack has passed."
