Now, banner ads on illegal sites warn against piracy

  • Banner ads are being placed by the City of London police on websites that are believed to be offering illegal pirated content.

These messages will appear instead of paid-for advertisements and urge users to close their browsers. This is an attempt by authorities to prevent piracy sites from making money through ads.

“This new initiative is another step forward for the unit in tackling IP crime and disrupting criminal profits,” a senior officer of the City of London Police was quoted as saying.
