India's Infosys to lay off up to 5,000 workers

  • India's Infosys is to fire up to 5,000 employees as the software services giant looks to lower costs and increase sales, according to a report in The Economic Times on Friday.

The move comes after Infosys executive co-chairman S Gopalakrishnan was quoted by other media outlets as saying 2013 would be better than last year for India's IT industry.

Speaking at an event for the Infosys Science Foundation on Thursday, Gopalakrishnan is quoted as saying brighter prospects for the United States and China would help lift the country’s IT sector.
