Google, Facebook, Twitter 'could be blocked', warns Russian media watchdog

  • The Russian media watchdog Roskomnadzor has warned Google, Facebook, and Twitter that they could be blocked if they failed to comply with the country’s internet laws.

Roskomnadzor has sent letters to the three companies in this regard, a spokesperson for the watchdog said, adding that the internet firms had been warned of the “consequences of violating the legislation”.

The firms need to hand over information on Russian bloggers whose readership exceeds 3,000 per day, and take down sites that call for “unsanctioned protests”, the watchdog said.
