Burger King Twitter account hacked

  • American fast-food giant Burger King revealed on Monday that its Twitter account may have been hacked, after its profile picture was changed to a McDonalds logo.

The background picture on the account showed Fish McBites while its feed included Tweets featuring racial slurs, obscenities and references to drugs.

The account also tweeted that the company had been sold to rival chain McDonalds.

"We just got sold to McDonalds! Look for McDonalds in a hood near you," one post read.

In response, McDonalds tweeted: "We empathize with our @BurgerKing counterparts. Rest assured, we had nothing to do with the hacking."

Burger King asked Twitter to suspend the account and @BurgerKing has not posted since 1:15 pm EST.

The firm said it would post an apology on its Facebook page.

It is not yet known who is responsible for the cyber attack.
