74 countries demand info on Facebook users
August 29 , 2013
American intelligence agencies and police are the most eager to gain information on Facebook users. The company said it has received requests from about 74 countries and out of the requests for information on about 38,000 users, the U.S. is responsible for requesting about 20,000.
Facebook has complied with 80 percent of these requests.
A company spokesman said "we fight many of these requests, pushing back when we find legal deficiencies and narrowing the scope of overly broad or vague requests."
Facebook granted 45 requests that came from Turkish agencies, denying that any of them of them were related to protest organizers.
