Legendary American swimmer Michael Phelps, the world’s most successful Olympian, has been suspended for six months by USA Swimming.
The swimming body said the 29-year-old, who has been charged with DUI, had violated the organization’s code of conduct. The 22-time Olympic medal winner will not be on the American team at next year’s world championships and won’t receive his monthly stipend, it was announced.
In a recent Twitter message, Phelps said he was attending a program to help him “better understand myself”.
