U.S. Open men's final moved to Monday

  • The U.S. Open men's final has been switched from Sunday to Monday for a fifth consecutive year after Saturday's semi-final between Novak Djokovic and David Ferrer was suspended due to bad weather.

    Britain's Andy Murray won the first semi-final, defeating Tomas Berdych 5-7 6-2 6-1 7-6.

Ferrer was leading the second semi 5-2 in the opening set when tournament officials halted the match because of high winds.

A short while later, tournament director David Brewer announced play had been called off for the rest of the day due to an approaching thunderstorm.

The shift in the men’s final comes after organizers already made the decision to move Saturday night's women's final between Serena Williams and Victoria Azarenka to Sunday.

The men's final has been played on Monday for the last four years, sparking annual debate and complaints from players and spectators as to why the courts are not covered.
