Sharapova arrives for Montreal Cup following Olympic loss

  • Olympic silver medalist Maria Sharapova arrived at the Montreal Cup on Tuesday, keen to put her loss to Serena Williams in the gold medal match of the 2012 Olympics behind her.

The third-seeded Sharapova was crushed 6-0, 6-1 by Williams in London but said the defeat would motivate her ahead of the August 27-September 9 U.S. Open.

"It will motivate me to keep going and keep practicing. There are certainly things I could have done better but she was playing really good tennis,” said Sharapova.

Sharapova is among several top players taking part in the $2 million Montreal event, seen as a key lead-in event for the U.S. Open.
