Olympic bosses order to take off quote from goalie mask

  • The International Olympic Committee has asked the goalie for the American women's hockey team to get rid of a quote from her helmet. "We the People" and her name have now been taken off from Jessie Vetter's helmet, which will still feature a Statue of Liberty.

"No writings of any kind to promote the country is allowed," a helmet designer said. He mentioned that the IOC doesn't approve of participants trying to declare that their country is better in any way. They asked her to remove her name since that appeared to be "self-promotion" when everything should be based on the team.

Team USA goalies were asked to remove slogans from their helmets prior to Vancouver Olympics in 2010 as well.
