Mexican Olympic medalist Noe Hernandez dies after shooting

  • A Mexican athlete who took home a silver medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympics has died two weeks after being shot in the head in a bar.

    Noe Hernandez, who came second in the 20-kilometer walk, died on the way to hospital after suffering a heart attack at home.

    The 34-year-old athlete was in a bar in Los Reyes La Paz  town in Mexico state on December 30 when a fight broke out at a nearby table.

    A man opened fire, killing two people and injuring Hernandez and another man.

    Mexican police are looking for three men in connection with the incident. No arrests have yet been made.

    The incident happened in the town of Los Reyes La Paz, in central Mexico state.

    Hernandez lost his left eye and suffered brain damage. He also lost most of his sight in the right eye.
