Konta Defeats Wozniacki to Become First British Woman to Win The Miami Open

  • 25 year old Johanna Konta becomes the first British woman to win the Miami Open as she defeated Denmark’s Caroline Wozniacki (26 year old) in straight sets (6-4 6-3).

    Konta won £940,000 in prize money. With this win, she improved her WTA winning tally to three. She has reached four WTA finals till now.

    Her first ever WTA win was in July 2016 at Bank of the West Classic, followed by Sydney International in January 2017 and Miami Open 2017.

    Konta had also reached the final of China Open last year (October 2016) but lost. In her winning speech, the British woman tennis sensation thanked the crowd and the energy they bring in to the court.

    Wozniacki congratulated Konta for the win and went on to say that Konta deserved to win the Miami Open 2017 title as she was the better player during the final.
