Kenya's Dennis Kimetto smashes world marathon record

  • Dennis Kimetto of Kenya has set a new world marathon record, becoming the first man to run it in under two hours three minutes, in Berlin, on Sunday, September 28, according to media reports.

    Kimetto, 30, broke the previous record set by Wilson Kipsang, by running the race in 2.2.57 hours.

    Fellow Kenyan runner Emmanuel Mutai stood second, clocking two hours, three minutes and 13 seconds.

    The women's race was won by Ethiopia’s Tirfi Tsegaye in 2 hours, 20 minutes and 18 seconds, reports said.
