Justin Gatlin runs fastest 100m of the year in 9.74 seconds

  • Justin Gatlin ran this year’s fastest 100m race at Doha’s Diamond League, completing it in 9.74 seconds, which is also the sixth fastest time in history.

The controversial 33-year-old American, who has served two bans for doping, finished well ahead of countryman Michael Rodgers and Keston Bledman of Trinidad and Tobago, who came third.

Usain Bolt holds the 100m world record of 9.58 seconds, which came in August 2009. Only Bolt, Tyson Gay, Asafa Powell and Yohan Blake have run faster than Gatlin.
