Italian newspaper apologizes over Mario Balotelli cartoon

  • Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport has apologized for publishing a cartoon depicting Mario Balotelli as King Kong.

The cartoon, depicting the striker on top of Big Ben and swatting away soccer balls after Italy's Euro 2012 win over England, attracting several complaints.

Manchester City striker Balotelli, of Ghanaian descent, has regularly been the target of racist abuse when playing in Italy.

Before the Euro 2012, he said he would leave the pitch if he was racially abused from the stands.
