Injured Cahill left out of England squad for Euro 2012

  • England central defender Gary Cahill has been ruled out of Euro 2012 after a scan showed he broke his jaw in two places in the final friendly against Belgium.

Cahill was injured just 17 minutes into Saturday's match at Wembley when he was pushed from behind by Belgium striker Dries Mertens.

The Football Association said on Sunday that Cahill had been withdrawn for the tournament in Poland and Ukraine that starts on Friday.

Liverpool defender Martin Kelly will join the squad in his place.

Fellow defender and Cahill's Chelsea team mate John Terry is also set to rejoin the squad after being given the all clear after checks on his hamstring.
