Germany defeats Chile to win its first ever Confederations Cup

  • On July 2, Germany defeated Chile by a margin of 1-0 at St Petersburg to win its first ever Confederations Cup. Lars Stindl scored the winning goal in the first half after Marcelo Diaz had made a mistake in Chile’s defensive area. At the closing stages of the games both Angelo Sagal and Arturo Vidal attempted to stop Germany from winning but their respective efforts sailed over the bar. Gonzalo Jara of Chile also elbowed Timo Werner of Germany but was lucky to have received only a yellow card for such indiscretion.
