May 28 , 2015
Key FIFA sponsors have expressed “serious” concern after top officials of football’s governing body were accused by US authorities of fraud, racketeering, and money laundering.
Seven senior FIFA officials have been arrested and a total of 14 have been indicted so far in what is turning out to be the biggest ever scandal to hit FIFA.
Coca-Cola said that the controversy had “tarnished the mission and ideals” of the World Cup, while McDonald’s said that the developments were “extremely” concerning.
Meanwhile, European football's governing body UEFA is meeting to decide if the vote for the FIFA presidency should be boycotted.
