ESPN to drop documentary
August 24 , 2013
ESPN dropped the documentary on NFL concussions that it had been working on for over a year. it was a last minute decision but recent reports suggest that the NFL pressurized ESPN into backing out of it.
Top league executives expressed their unhappiness about the documentary to the president of ESPN. The New York Times anonymously cited two sources with "direct knowledge of the situation."
The league, on the other hand said it didn't ask ESPN to drop the film and an ESPN spokesman blamed it on the lack of editorial control it would have on what Frontline aired.
Frontline said it didn't appear to be ESPN's decision when it broke the news.
An ESPN producer had recently said "the collaboration had been marvelous" and that "NFL is going to have to understand that."
