English Premier League seeks new television deal
May 4 , 2012
The English Premier League has kicked off its auction for a new domestic television deal.
The move is set to test whether pay TV operator BSkyB can uphold its dominance of live soccer coverage.
The Premier League gets $2.89 billion for live rights under the current agreement that has one season left to run.
It is seeking a three-year deal to begin from 2013-14.
Speculation has been rife that Qatar-based Al Jazeera may look to acquire the rights following its expansion of French soccer coverage.
