Doctors starting to wake up Schumacher
January 31 , 2014
Michael Schumacher's doctors have begun trying to wake up him from the medically induced coma he's been in since last month.
The former Formula One Champion critically injured himself in a skiing accident when he fell and hit his head on a rock.
"Michael's sedation is being reduced in order to allow the start of the waking up process which may take a long time," his manager said. The 45-year-old was kept under artificial sedation and a low body temperature in order to reduce the swelling in his brain.
Experts mentioned that the news is a good sign and the first 24 hours are critical. "It means they have probably seen the pressure in his skull reduced," a brain trauma expert said.
