Canada Strikes Back Against Russia to Reach Final of Ice Hockey World Championship

  • Canada made a spectacular comeback in the semi-final match against Russia in the Ice Hockey World Championships. With just 20 minutes to play, Canadian team (two-time defending champions) refocused and defeated Russia 4-2 at Germany’s Lanxess Arena in Cologne. In another semi-final match, Sweden defeated Finland 4-1. In the final, Canada will play against Sweden for the title. Defending champion Canada has never won the championship thrice in a row since early 1950s. It is a golden chance for Canada to pull off a three time win in a row. The last team to win the championship thrice in a row was Czech Republic, from 1999 to 2001. O’Reilly (who helped Canada win Ice Hockey World Championships in 2015 and 2016) said that they are not yet done and have a lot of work to do to pull it off.
