Bahraini sheikh to lead Asian Football Confederation
May 3 , 2013
Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim al-Khalifa of Bahrain was elected president of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) on Thursday.
He replaces the disgraced former head, Mohammed bin Hammam.
Sheikh Salman got 33 votes, having needed 31 for outright victory.
He also secured the vacant seat on FIFA's executive committee, which had also been held by bin Hammam.
Qatari bin Hammam was given a lifetime ban from the sport in 2011 after being found guilty of bribery by FIFA's ethics committee.
