Africa Cup of Nations: Crowd disturbances mar semi-final
February 6 , 2015
Ugly and unprecedented scenes marred the semi-final encounter between Equatorial Guinea and Ghana in the Africa Cup of Nations on Thursday night as crowd disturbances forced the match to be suspended for nearly 40 minutes.
Eventually, a large part of the stadium had to forcibly evacuated by the police as Ghana won the match 3-0.
The home crowd earlier hurled bottles at Ghana players and fans, forcing the visiting side to leave the pitch.
Though the 3-0 score means Ghana will meet Ivory Coast in Sunday’s final, football took the backseat for the first time in the tournament.
