US soul singer Percy Sledge dies

  • Percy Sledge, the American soul singer best known for his popular song ‘When a Man Loves a Woman’, has died at the age of 74.

    He died at his Baton Rouge home in Louisiana, and was reportedly suffering from cancer.

    ‘When a Man Loves a Woman’ was his debut single and reached the top of the US Billboard chart in 1966. It was also number four in the British charts.

    His other successful songs included ‘Warm and Tender Love’ and ‘Take Time to Know Her’.
