Robert Redford will be the next recipient of the Chaplin award.
The 77-year-old actor, director and activist has had an influence on cinema that is “hard to measure”, according to The Film Society of Lincoln Center, which will be handing him the award in New York.
Alfred Hitchcock, Martin Scorsese, and Barbra Streisand are some of the past recipients of the award named after the legendary actor and director Charlie Chaplin.
Redford has won numerous awards in his career, including an Oscar for directing the 1980 film ‘Ordinary People’ and an honorary Oscar. He founded the Sundance Film Festival, a space for alternative film voices.
