NBC justifies not broadcasting 9/11 tribute

  • NBC has justified its decision to interview a reality TV star instead of observing a moment of silence commemorating the 11th anniversary of 9/11.

While other networks aired live silent footage of memorial services, NBC's Today Show broadcast an interview with Kris Jenner from Keeping Up With The Kardashians.

ABC, CBS and Fox paused their morning programming at 08:46 EST to mark the time when 11 years ago, the first of two hijacked airplanes hit New York's World Trade Center.

Meanwhile, NBC showed presenter Savannah Guthrie discussing breast implant replacement surgery with Jenner.

An NBC spokeswoman defended the network’s actions, saying Tuesday's show had "dedicated a considerable amount of time to September 11th coverage".

NBC recently came under fire for its coverage of the London Olympics after omitting a tribute to the victims of the 2005 London bombings during its coverage of the opening ceremony.

It also drew criticism for not broadcasting live action from the 2012 Paralympics, despite holding exclusive rights in the U.S.
