Mike Nichols, US film and stage director, dies

  • Mike Nichols, an Oscar-winning American director who was successful in films and theater, has died at the age of 83, according to media reports.

    The Germany-born Nichols won an Academy Award for best director for the Graduate, a 1967 film.

    He was also nominated for Oscars for films such as The Remains of the Day, and Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?

    He won all four key awards in the US entertainment business - Emmy, Oscar, Tony, and Grammy.
