Lauryn Hill charged over failing to file tax returns

  • Hip-hop star Lauryn Hill has been charged with wilfully failing to file income tax returns.

Authorities say the U.S. singer earned more than $1.6 million during 2005 to 2007, where her main source of income came from music and film royalties.

Hill has not yet commented on the charges. She is due to appear in court on June 29.

Hill was the only female member of rap group The Fugees, whose album The Score achieved global success in 1996.

In 1998, she released her critically acclaimed debut solo album, The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill, which remains her only studio album to date.

She now rarely makes public appearances.
