James Gandolfini funeral takes place in New York

  • The funeral of actor James Gandolfini was held in New York on Thursday, a week after he passed away in Italy.

    Family, friends and fans gathered at the Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine to pay tribute to The Sopranos star who died last Wednesday following a heart attack.

    Gandolfini, who was 51, was on holiday with his son.

    David Chase who created The Sopranos, which turned the actor a household name, spoke at the service along with Gandolfini's widow, Deborah, and two family friends.

    Gandolfini’s portrayal of mob boss Tony Soprano in the HBO series won him three Emmy Awards.

    The funeral was held a day after a private family wake took place in New Jersey on Wednesday.
