July 28 , 2014
Carlo Bergonzi, the well-known opera singer from Italy, has died at the age of 90.
In his four-decade career, Bergonzi did several stage roles, following his debut as a tenor in Milan in 1953.
He took the challenge of performing in a title role in Verdi's Otello in New York when he was 75. But since the role was very challenging, he withdrew midway, with his understudy replacing him.
Though he started his career as a baritone, he realized he was more suited to tenor roles.
