May 9 , 2013
An unfinished draft of an upcoming novel by Sex and the City author Candace Bushnell was leaked by a hacker on Wednesday.
The hacker, who goes by the name Guccifer, gained access to the draft after breaking into an email account used by Bushnell to share work with her publisher.
Around 50 pages of the draft, tentatively titled Killing Monica, as well as some emails from Bushnell's Earthlink account were released through a Google Drive account.
The story begins with a middle-aged woman telling a cab driver about her divorce as they drive from New York City's LaGuardia Airport.
Bushnell’s publisher, Hachette's Grand Central Publishing, confirmed that she had written the material that had been posted online.
Bushnell garnered worldwide fame for her Sex and the City novel, which was turned into a hit TV series by HBO in the late 1990s starring Sarah Jessica Parker as the protagonist, Carrie Bradshaw.
