Electronic voting will be used for the first time to choose the winners of the Oscars, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced on Tuesday.
In a statement, the Academy said the decision to use electronic voting process for the 85th Oscars comes after extensive research and consultations with its members.
In the past, Oscar ballots have been mailed to the Academy's 6,000 global members with the results recorded by hand by accountancy firm PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Starting in December this year, members will be able to vote online via email. Membership is made up of leading film actors, directors, writers, animators, film editors as well as others.
The Academy Awards will take place in Hollywood on February 24, 2013.
