Yahoo talks about an attempted attack on email accounts

  • Yahoo said it had to reset passwords on several email accounts after discovering that there were attempts to gain access to them.

The company hasn't revealed as to how many accounts were affected and mentioned that the attackers used passwords and usernames of the users.

"The information sought in the attack seems to be names and email addresses from the affected accounts' most recent sent emails," Yahoo said in a statement. It also said the users' passwords were taken from a third-party database and not from its systems.

The company's blog post reminds its users to keep changing their passwords on a regular basis.
