US: 126,000 jobs added in March; unemployment rate remains at 5.5.%

  • The US economy added 126,000 jobs last month, a considerable decrease compared to previous months, official figures say.

The drop in gain in March brings an end to a 12-month period when more than 200,000 jobs were added each month. The lower numbers are being attributed to several factors including factory slowdown and a severe winter.

Meanwhile, the unemployment remained 5.5%, the department of labor said.

The US job figures for January and February have also been revised downward by a total of 69,000 jobs.
