Unilever to shed 800 UK jobs

  • Consumer goods giant Unilever is planning to cut 800 jobs across the UK.

    The company has a total workforce of around 7,200 and makes products and brands ranging from Ben and Jerry's ice cream and Marmite to Dove soap and Vaseline.

    The cuts are expected to come into place by the end of 2013 and comprises 500 direct job losses and some 300 contractor and third party jobs.

    Some of the jobs may be outsourced to Unilever's IT center in Bangalore, India.
