UK: Industrial production gets boost from oil and gas output
July 8 , 2015
The UK’s industrial production increased 0.4% in May thanks to the oil and gas output, which was up 7.3%, according to official data.
But manufacturing continued to fall, dropping 0.6% in May following a fall of 0.4% in April.
The manufacturing performance is being attributed to a weak demand in markets in Europe and a strong pound.
However, compared with the previous year, the UK's industrial output was up 2.1%, with manufacturing showing a 1% increase.
