Teen dies trying to save phone from tracks

  • Another person was killed while trying to save her phone without worrying about her own safety. The 14-year-old Jenna Betti dropped her device on the tracks in Martinez, Calif. while she was sitting with her boyfriend. A railway rep mentioned that the conductor whistled as the train approached the corner.

"She didn't judge the approach, and the train creates a vacuum, we were told, and it sucks you in," the girl's mother said. "We are beyond devastated."

Jenna's brother said he can't put himself in her shoes but "she wasn't really thinking, and didn't really think twice, and she just reacted and tried to get her phone as quick as she could."

Two men died earlier this year while trying to save a phone in the Chicago River.
