June 17 , 2014
Coffee chain Starbucks is paying for its workers' college education and mentioned that it is offering 135k of its employees in the US the opportunity to take online classes at Arizona State University for two years. Media reports that those who take the program will be able to choose what they want to study, but it is not clear as to how much the reimbursement will cost Starbucks.
CEO Howard Schultz said to the New York Times that this move will "increase performance" while attracting and retaining better workers. Moreover, the company said it will pay full tuition for those who have already studied for two years in college.
