Solar panels are coming to IKEA shelves
October 2 , 2013
IKEA is known for its affordable furniture but the Swedish-owned retailer is soon adding a new item to its stores in England: solar panels. A pack of 18 panels will cost $9,200, which the company says is still cheaper than what its competitors offer. The company also mentioned that buying these panels would be an investment for customers given the lower bills and government incentives in about seven years.
A case study of a semi-detached house in the UK revealed that the panels would generate nearly $1200 every year for the owners. IKEA's sustainability chief said, "You don't have to care about the environment, and climate change, you can just care about the finances."
Unlike the company's other items, installation and maintenance comes as part of the package.
