Russian gas purchases suspended in Ukraine after talks break down
July 1 , 2015
Ukraine has suspended gas purchases from Russia after talks aimed at continuing the supplies for 3-6 months broke down.
Russia’s energy minister Alexander Novak said that the decision was unfortunate.
Naftogaz, Ukraine’s state energy firm, said that it will continue to transport Russian gas supplies to other customers in Europe.
Moscow had increased gas prices after Viktor Yanukovych, the pro-Russia leader, was ousted from power early 2014. In June 2014, it cut off supplies amid an escalating conflict between Ukrainian government forces and pro-Russia separatists in the east.
